John Mayer

Personally, I love John Mayer. Some of his pop-acoustic stuff isn't for me, but he is an extremely talented guitar player. Many of his songs, such as Neon and Why Georgia, are very difficult to play correctly on the guitar (trust me I've tried it takes a while to get them down.) And alot of his electric guitar and blues work is extremely well done. This video is Slow Dancing in A Burning Room. It's a beautifully written song, with thoughtful lyrics and this version has an incredible guitar solo.
Overall, I do think that John Mayer is bringing the blues to the mainstream. You pay for a John Mayer ticket, and he plays Why Georgia, 3x5, Daughters, Waitin' on the World to Change, etc., but he also throws in some blues stuff nowadays. He's honestly one of the most talented current pop-music artist.
Slow Dancing in a Burning Room can be found on his latest album Contiuum. By far John's best work. John seems to show his true self in this album and the songs seem much more soulful than his previous efforts.

Mike Oria- Wow!

Wow! Man this guy is good. I stumbled across this on Youtube. I have to idea who this guy is or what he does for a living but wow this is great jazz guitar playing.

That Little Band From Texas

No, not ZZ top, but Explosions in the Sky. You'll have heard of them if you've seen the movie Friday Night Lights. This is my favorite and probably their most well known song- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLlYQQrHmh8. I haven't had a chance to see them live, but I've heard that the show is great. They normally play smaller venues, which, at least in my personal opinion, is a very positive thing due to price and the fact that you are right there with the band.

Most of the Explosions songs are caracterized by a melody and chord progression that flow very well together and repeat in different forms throughout the song. Also, the drummer, Chris Hrasky, is very talented and not stereotypical in the least. If you're into post-rock/instrumental, you'll love Explosions in the Sky. And heck, even if you aren't give them a listen, it's worth it.

Your Hand in Mine can be found on their latest album The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place. It's an extremely well done album and I highly recommend it if you're into instrumental post-rock (or just good music in general.)

Justin Timberlake- My Love

Wow this frustrates me. If you haven't heard the song, just give it a listen here. Just fastforward the ridiculous intro. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=shUhLVz-9D0 I'm not knockin' all of Justin Timberlake's songs, but if you know anything about music and have a decent ear, you know that this song is flat. How that is allowed to happen on a #1 (at least at one point) song is beyond me. Some of Timberlake's non-falsetto songs are actually pretty catchy (not my cup of tea but catchy), but this is terrible. Sorry any Timberlake fans, but its the truth.

Welcome

Welcome!
I, as a high school kid, just got into this whole blogging thing. I normally wouldn't be involved in something like this, but my own generation frustrates me with their music and appreciation of talent a lot of times. So I figured, hey, why not just start a blog that identifies what I believe is real talent. And by recognizing and appreciating talent, I mean on both the already famous level, and on the up-and-coming level. And no, I'm not beneath taking shots at untalented artists.
